This is a great painting to choose if you would like to offer guests to your party a real way to customize their canvas painting to their tastes! They can select from the original design or maybe they prefer chocolate, tea, or WIFI a little more.

You must purchase the original pattern and instructions to be able to complete this version.

TIPS FOR PAINTING THIS DESIGN:

  • For the best chalk effect, don't overload your brush with paint or add layers. Allow the background to show through in areas on the letters and design to add to the authenticity of the chalkboard style.

STEP ONE

Use ¾" Flat Brush and Mars Black to paint background. Let dry completely. Rinse brush.

STEP TWO

Use No. 6 Bright Brush and Titanium White to paint wide sections of lettering and flourishes. Use No. 2 Round Brush and Titanium White for thin lines and detail areas of design. (For authentic chalkboard art style effect, use dry-brush method in some areas, avoiding solid coverage.) Refer to photo and to methodology for detailed instructions. Rinse brushes.

STEP THREE

Use ¾" Flat Brush to mix (4) parts Burnt Umber, (1) part Raw Sienna, and small amount of Titanium White. Use mix to dry-brush wood grain effect on frame, using wide side and thin side of brush alternately to create variation of strokes and allowing black basecoat to show through for depth. (Pay attention to mitered corners, stopping brush-strokes at this point.) Refer to photo and to methodology for detailed instructions. Don’t rinse brush. Save mix for next bullet.

Use same brush to mix (1) part mix from bullet 1 with (1) part Titanium White. Use new mix to dry-brush lighter wood grain. Refer to methodology for detailed instructions. Rinse brush.

Use No. 2 Round Brush to mix (1) part Burnt Umber with (1) part Mars Black. Use mix to add detail to mitered corners and nailheads at corners. Refer to photo. Rinse  brush.Canvas painting ideas
